O Music aims to topple Jay-Z's world record

6.5.12

The Guinness World Record for "the most live concerts performed in 24 hours in different locations" is currently held by Jay-Z, and it seems hard to top: On Nov. 18, 2006, the musician managed to perform in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Nevertheless, the O Music Awards aim to shatter that record June 27 with a "24-hour cross-state road trip livestream awards show."

The O Music Awards honor the best in digital music culture. Past winners have included Bjork, who received the Digital Genius Award; and Kanye West, who once won for, uh, "best tweet."

The official nominations won't be announced until May 23, but right now the site is seeking fans' nominees and category suggestions. (These videos may help give you an idea of what they're looking for.)

The road trip kicks off in Memphis and ends in New Orleans, so if you live in the South, you may be able to see one of the performances by the as-yet-unnamed band. The whole thing will be streamed on http://blog.omusicawards.com.

Previously, the O Music Awards have broken records for "longest freestyle rap" and "longest team dance marathon." Incidentally, Jay-Z holds several Guinness World Records, including "most debuts at No. 1 on the U.S. album chart by a rap artist."
