Nominations for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, taking place on Sunday 28 August, were announced last week. Pop singer Katy Perry was in the lead with nine nominations, including Video of the Year and Best Female Video for hit song, Firework and other nominations for Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), E.T and Teenage Dream.
British soul singer Adele followed with seven nominations for Rolling in the Deep, and Kanye West was the leading male with seven nominations for ‘powerful and artistic’ videos All of the Lights and Power. Singer / songwriter Bruno Mars is up for four awards, and Beyonce, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj and Thirty Seconds to Mars each have three nominations.

The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will air on MTV (DStv Channel 321) and MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) in August 2011.
